Status Effects (referred as Mutators by Ninja Kiwi) are effects applied to bloons or towers, usually bloons. These will alter the properties of the affected targets. Often, status effects are negative for the subject affected with them, but some are beneficial (e.g. Tower Buffs for towers).

Bloon Statuses[]

Monkey Glue[]

Main article: Standard Glue

Monkey Glue causes Bloons to be slowed down, and is represented by the affected Bloons being coated in glue. The type of glue can affect the color.

MOAB-class Bloons are immune to Monkey Glue in Bloons Tower Defense 4-5, although in Bloons TD Battles Mobile glue can stick to and slow MOAB-class with Tier 3+ upgrades, although for half the slowdown, duration, and corrosion rate.

In BTD6, Monkey Glue can affect MOAB-class Bloons with either Corrosive Glue or MOAB Glue (and their respective upgrades) However, the glue will not slow MOAB-Class bloons without the MOAB Glue. (B.A.D. excluded, as it is immune to all slowdowns).

Towers that can inflict Monkey Glue:

In BTD6, glue prioritization can affect how glue statuses interact; refer to Glue Gunner (BTD6)#Glue Prioritization System for further details.

Glue Sub-statuses[]

Monkey Glue can also inflict damage over time from upgrade Corrosive Glue and its upgrades (Bloon Dissolver/Liquefier/Solver) turning it green and melting bloons very fast while still retaining slowdown effect.

Monkey Glue can also further slow Bloons (75% slowness) if caused by a Glue Gunner with MOAB Glue and its further bottom path upgrades (Relentless/Super) turning it pink and allowing to slow down MOAB-Class Bloons for half of its effect (37,5% slowness).

Monkey Napalm[]

Monkey Napalm is a substance that causes affected Bloons to catch on fire, dealing a certain amount of damage over time. Unlike Monkey Glue, Napalm always looks the same. It inflicts a Burn Burn (standard bloons, unspecified alt variants) status effect.

Towers that can inflict burning in BTD5:

Towers that can inflict burning in BTD6:

Freeze[]

Main article: Freeze

Freeze simply freezes bloons in place. Affected Bloons will be coated in a layer of ice, with frost gathering on the top. Frozen Bloons are immune to sharp attacks, with many exceptions.

White and Zebra Bloons are immune to Freeze with a few noteable exceptions, as well as all MOAB-class Bloons, with three notable exceptions.

Towers that can inflict Freeze:

Stun[]

Main article: Stun

Stun will impair a bloon's movement, either partially or completely. It is usually depicted with cartoon stars orbiting around the bloon's top, however some methods of inflicting Stun will not cause bloons to have stars. In addition, most methods of inflicting Stun will affect only one type of bloon, with most not affecting MOAB-class bloons; this can go both ways.

While Stun is one of the most prolific status effects, it is very inaccessible in BTD5, being limited to expensive/high-tier upgrades and/or Specialty Buildings. There is much more variety in BTD6, however, and the only tower that directly benefits from this status is Heavy Shells to Pop and Awe, which deal extra damage to bloons inflicted by this status effect, Sauda also starts dealing extra damage at level 7+.

Towers that can inflict Stun:

Permafrost[]

Main article: Permafrost

Permafrost is status on slowdown bloons permanently but only last on certain layer.

Sabotaged[]

Main article: Sabotage

Sabotaged status on bloons temporarily slows all bloons on screen by 50% but does not soak through MOAB-class bloons. Only Ninja Monkey upgrades can perform this.

Blowback[]

Main article: Blowback

Blowback is status effect as sending bloons away from the exit, while bloons got blowback other towers still can damage its.

Radiated[]

Main article: Radioactive

Radiation will cause bloons to take damage as long as they are within the range of the affecting tower. Affected Bloons will be depicted with a green, radioactive aura.

Crippled[]

Main article: Debuff

Crippled status on bloons renders them vulnerable to additional damage from other sources. Bloons with the "Crippled" status increases the amount of damage dealt by other towers. These effects can be stacked on top of unique crippled statuses. So far, there are only four possible ways of adding "Crippled" status, of which only three can be applied to MOAB-class:

Bloon Boosted[]

The effects of Bloon Boost vary wildly depending on the type, but the base Bloon Boost will give Bloons increased speed by 30% for a time. Affected Bloons will have sparkles trailing them.

This status is exclusive to Bloons Tower Defense Battles. See this page for more info.

Acidic[]

Main article: Acid (status effect)

Acid will cause Bloons to slowly take damage. This acts similar to Corrosive Glue, but does not slow Bloons. To compensate, the status cannot be purge by tornadoes. Affected Bloons have a red liquid or a purple liquid on them, depending on upgrades.

The Alchemist is the sole inflictor of the Acidic status, as they put acid on all Bloons they attack.

Grow Blocked[]

Main article: Grow Blocked

Grow Block can only affect Regrowth Bloons, and prevents them from regrowing layers. Affected Bloons have a pulsing red aura around them.

The Grow Blocked status can be inflicted by the Monkey Village's Grow Blocker upgrade and Ezili's Heartstopper ability.

Partially Gold[]

Main article: Gold

Partially Gold Bloons give more cash when popped. Affected Bloons have a gold outline. MOAB-Class Bloons show no cosmetic difference.

The status is exclusive to the Alchemist's Rubber to Gold upgrade.

Sticky Bombed[]

Main article: Sticky Bomb (status effect)

MOAB-class bloons hit by sticky bombs from Sticky Bomb or Master Bomber automatically gain the Sticky Bombed status effect. Both types of sticky bombs are counted as separate sticky bombs. Any bloon inflicted with this status effect will always be automatically dealt high damage after a short cooldown timer.

Trojaned and Syphoned[]

See also: Trojan, Downgrade Layer

Trojan will cause Bloons to not release children. The downside is that you only gain money from popping the trojaned layer. Affected Bloons have a glitching effect on them. ZOMGs and the BAD cannot be Trojaned.

Syphon will cause Bloons to spawn 1 rank lower and give double cash per pop. Affected Bloons will have a green grid over them. The Dark Dirigible Titan (D.D.T.) and the BAD cannot be Syphoned.

Benjamin is the only tower capable of inflicting Trojan and Syphon, gaining access to Trojan at Level 7 and gaining access to Syphon at Level 10.

Hexed and MOAB Hexed[]

See also: Hex, MOAB Hex

Hexed Bloons take damage over time similarly to Corrosive Glue. The damage and time can be increased as Ezili levels up. This status cannot be applied to Purple Bloons without support. Affected Bloons have various purple graphics, including pins & symbols, on them.

MOAB Hexed Bloons take more damage over time, and leave no children when popped. Unlike Trojan, full cash is gained for popping it. Only MOAB-Class Bloons can be affected by this status. Affected Bloons have the regular Hexed graphics, but green and repositioned.

Both statuses are exclusive to Ezili.

Laser Shocked[]

Main article: Laser Shock (status effect)

Bloons affected by Laser Shock status effect will be dealt an extra +1 damage from any Dartling Gunner with Laser Shock or its higher upgrades. Additionally, after 1.0s it will automatically chip in 1 damage (or 20 with Ray of Doom).

Positive Tower Statuses[]

See also: Tower Buffs.

Monkey Boosted[]

The effects of Monkey Boost vary wildly depending on the type, but the base Monkey Boost increases attack speed by 100% (80% in BTDB) for affected towers. Affected towers pulse with a green circle.

This status appears in Bloons Tower Defense Battles, Bloons Monkey City, and BTD6. See this page for more info.

Berserk & Dipped[]

Beserk increases damage, range, attack speed, and pierce for the affected tower for a time. Affected towers have an orange pulse effect around them. Before version 10.0, no visible effect was shown.

Dipped allows affected towers to pop Lead and deal extra damage to Ceramics and MOAB-class Bloons for certain amount of attacks.. Affected towers have a green bubbling effect. Before version 10.0, no visible effect was shown.

The Alchemist is the sole source of both statuses.

Nullifying tower statuses[]

In Bloons Adventure Time TD, characters may be equipped with Trinkets such as Protection Gems, Red Cowboy Boots, Candy Dive Suits (all three of these for any character), the Pink Sweater (for Finn only), and the Iron Hull (for Cassie only) can be equipped onto a character to prevent status effects from affecting them. The Heroic Aura upgrade for the Supermonkey also protects the Super Monkey from all negative effects, including stuns.

Negative Tower Statuses[]

Although uncommon, negative status effects can be inflicted on towers as well. This mechanic was introduced in Bloons Monkey City, where certain Boss Bloons were able to inflict debuffs on towers. They play a more significant role in Bloons TD Battles Mobile, where they can be inflicted on the opponent's towers with certain Powers; and in Bloons Adventure Time TD, where they are known as negative effects and can be inflicted by environmental hazards.

Disabled (Stunned/Burnt)[]

Boss Bloons like Blastapopoulos and Vortex in Bloons Monkey City can stun towers with some of their attacks. When a tower is stunned, the tower cannot attack. Stunned towers have a halo of stars flying over them.

This status effect returns in Bloons TD Battles Mobile, and can be inflicted with the Knock Out or Team Tower Stun sabotage powers.

This status effect returns in Bloons Adventure Time TD, albeit visually different. It occurs when a tower is set on fire or electrocuted. When set on fire, towers will emit a red, fiery aura closely surrounding them.

Passive boosts to other towers (such as Regal Presence from Princess Bubblegum) are disabled for as long as the boost granter is stunned. Income generation (such as that by BMO) is also halted. Extra income granted by Finn's Bro Fist, Holly-Jolly Sweater, and/or Universal Coin that is held up by the tower being set on fire is immediately granted when the stun wears off.

The following can stun towers in Bloons Adventure Time TD:

Tower stuns return in Bloons TD 6 with Gravelord Lych, and is used alongside Absorb buffs. The BTD6 incarnation of Vortex uses a variant of stun that also disables manual selling while the stun lasts. The map Glacial Trail can disable non-Ice Monkeys and render them non-interactable by freezing them.

Absorb buffs[]

Absorb buffs appears in Bloons TD 6 with the boss Gravelord Lych, which stuns nearby towers if it manages to absorb any sappable buffs.

Range reduced (Blinded)[]

This status effect can be inflicted on opponent's towers with the Tower Blindness sabotage power from Bloons TD Battles Mobile. Affected towers have 66% smaller range radius and projectile lifespan. It does not affect infinite ranged towers.

Blinded also appears in Bloons Adventure Time TD. Towers struck by green spells in Wizard Royale and Wizard Attack Martian Games suffer from a blinding status effect. When affected, a dark green cloud arises from the blinded character. Blind towers have their range greatly reduced until the status wears off. Decreasing range may affect proximity upgrades between towers. Infinite range towers only have their display range reduced.

Slowed (Frozen/Chilled)[]

The status effect first appears with Vortex. When a tower is slowed, it attacks slower but will not move slower or have a slower animation.

The Chilled status effect makes an appearance in Card Battles from Bloons TD Battles Mobile. It is part of the Monkey Chill card, which makes all opponent's placed towers attack 25% slower for 15 seconds. It is also found in the Slow, Long Slow, and Extra Slow sabotage powers, which slows opponent's towers by 15% for 8 seconds, 15% for 12 seconds, and 25% for 8 seconds, respectively.

Towers struck by ice spells in Ice King's Throne Room, Wizard Royale, and Wizard Attack Martian Games in Bloons Adventure Time TD face this status effect. Affected towers have a bright white circle under them. The frozen status slows down the attack speed and/or income generation speed of an affected tower until it wears off. Towers can also be slowed by the Mushroom Blast power.

Radar Jam[]

This status effect is introduced in Bloons TD 6 with Phayze. When Radar Jam is active, towers that are receiving camo detection buffs from other towers (e.g. Radar Scanner, Etienne) have their camo detection temporarily disabled. Towers with built-in camo detection, including from upgrades or levels, are immune to this effect.

Trivia[]

  • The green glue from Bloon Dissolver and their subsequent upgrades resembles acid.
  • The pink glue from MOAB Glue and their subsequent upgrades resembles bubblegum.
  • Ninja Kiwi frequently describes status effects as “mutators” in their patch notes, such as in regards to earlier bug fix attempts to Sticky Bomb getting removed by additional status effects expiring too soon, and in regards to Version 37.0’s Known Bugs list written by one of their employees on the r/btd6 37.0 Patch Notes page.
